Social Media Marketing: The Democratization of Content, Conversations and the Impact of Word of Mouth

Thoughts have of late been percolating in my mind. Thoughts about how the internet has impacted society, what it’s meant so far and where all of this may be heading. The social web has had enormous impact on everything from our social lives, to our professional lives, to how we discover, purchase and discuss products [...]

Why Is Everyone Still Dumping Money Into Banner Ads?

Let’s face it: banner ads have been tanking for a long time. The term “banner ad blindness” was first coined in 1998 by Jan Panero Benway and David M. Lane. In July of ‘07,Dave Morgan blogged about a study that he conducted with AOL on ad clicking behavior. Ninety-nine percent of Web users do not click [...]

Digital Media Summit It’s Time to Reevaluate the Hit

I attended the Digital Media Summit in Hollywood yesterday. Here’s the pitch from the event web site: “Hollywood and content producers are faced with a Hobson’s Choice: Make your content available to all for free online - and potentially see your core business cannibalized. Or hold onto copyrighted content tightly…and watch as an amoral generation of [...]

The Effect of Social Media on Music

The social web has changed the way people listen to, share and interact with music. Sites like Last.fm, Muxtape, Radioheadremix and iMeem put the user at the helm. They allow us to share, interact, distribute, collect and rework music. There are already plenty of great posts out there about what Radiohead has been up to. As [...]

What is a Brand? And who is in control of yours?

Hi Jackie,

I have recently joined this group,

I came across your profile and wanted to reach out. I own a web2.0 consulting startup; essentially my team & I build websites (web1.0 stuff), webapps (web2.0) and we truly enjoying working in this area. We are also working on Facebook Apps and Google's OpenSocial. Languages we excel at include: php, .net, java, ruby on rails building in flex, openlazlo, ajax, etc. Three areas we are experts at: web2.0, open source and wireless/mobile application development.

If you have an idea and/or a project in any of these areas, please feel free to call me and/or email me. Else, if you may know someone looking for a web developer, we would be gladl to work on that. Thanks much!
